Is Magic Mike a true story?

Magic Mike is not based on a true story; however, there are some real-life parallels from its star Channing Tatum, a male dancer early in his career, and some of his experiences of the environment and energy of the scene did translate to the silver screen.

Despite Tatum maintaining that nothing in the film is based on actual events other than the atmosphere of the times, and the fact that he was an 18-year-old stripper living on his sister's sofa, earlier in his career, Tatum is being sued by two strippers that claim that certain names and events are taken from their lives.

Regardless, Tatum maintains that Magic Mike is still a work of fiction that tells its unique story about finding yourself through dance and friendship.
